The Butter showing is underlain by late Early Jurassic potassium-feldspar megacrystic quartz monzonite of the Cone Mountain Plutonic Suite. This unit has been intruded by a Paleocene to Eocene biotite granite of the Sloko-Hyder Plutonic Suite to the northwest. Both units have intruded a Pennsylvanian volcanic unit of the Stikine Assemblage. Both intrusive units are well jointed and fractured and host numerous small shear zones and quartz veins. Mineralization within the intrusives consists of finely disseminated chalcopyrite associated with pyrite. Mineralized quartz veins contain massive pyrite (up to 25 per cent) with lesser amounts of chalcopyrite.

The 1990 work program consisted of prospecting and surface sampling. Several rock and soil samples assayed returned elevated values in copper, silver, and gold. Rock grab sample 90G-6-K02 of a shear-hosted 3 centimetre wide quartz vein in monzonite containing 10 per cent pyrite assayed 0.036 per cent copper, 12.7 grams per tonne silver and 0.05 gram per tonne gold, while rock grab sample 90G-6-K04 of limonitic quartz monzonite containing 25 per cent pyrite and 5 per cent chalcopyrite assayed 0.31 per cent copper, 5.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.014 gram per tonne gold (Assessment Report 21148). Sample 90G-6-K04 is located about 300 metres west of sample 90G-6-K02. Rock float sample 90F-6-K01 also limonitic quartz monzonite with 3 per cent pyrite assayed 0.75 gram per tonne gold and 0.7 gram per tonne silver (Assessment Report 21148). Sample 90G-6-K01 is located about 100 metres northeast of sample 90G-6-K02.

In early 1989, the Butt 3 claim was staked and was grouped with several adjoining claims under the name of the Phacops. Coast Mountain Geological Ltd. prospected and sampled portions of the claim group but no work was reported to have been completed on the area covered by the Butt 3 claim.

In 1990, 5 man-days of fieldwork were carried out on the Butt 3 claim on behalf of Bellex Mining Corp. Work consisted of prospecting, geological mapping, and surface sampling. Stream sediment fines were collected from both running and dry stream channels. Soil pits were dug, and soil samples collected. A total of 11 rock, 1 soil and 7 silt samples were collected. Silt and soil samples collected during the 1990 field season indicated the presence of copper, zinc, and barium mineralization on the property.
